Jason and Erin did not ask nor do they expect any financial help. However, due to the amount of inquiries I am receiving about it, I approached them for some information about their situation.
Their insurance coverage is a $6,000 deductible for in-network and a $12,000 deductible for out-of-network. To give some context, John's last surgery was only one overnight in a regular hospital room without any complications and they had to pay $10,000 out of pocket. John spent 18 nights in the hospital this time, 17 of which were in the Intensive Care Unit. The amount of people on his medical staff caring team were numerous with surgeons, specialists and therapists so the chances of them being out-of-network are high. They are realistically looking at an $18,000 bill this year. Below are some options for how to help financially:
